You probably have seen an art piece I’ve posted on instagram stories along with my song Constelación, but you might be wondering what’s the meaning of that art piece or why did he chose to be painted like that. Well today I will share with you the meaning behind the art piece, which you can see the image above.
I’m going to describe the image in pieces because there are different meanings to the each element you see in the image. First I want to start with the face, in the image you can see that half of my face is a skull and the other half is my face so what does this mean? This represents life and death and its a reminder that we are not immortal and we need to do what we can to live our lives with love, respect and honesty.
Second you have the scales, this represents my zodiac sign and yes you guessed it, I’m a libra. I relate with my sign a lot since I do have lots of the qualities my sign represent and I do believe there should be a balance in the world to be able to work properly and both sides have to be equally valued otherwise the world can enter into chaos.
Third, we have the white and black roses. These roses represent the good and the bad and both are located in the scales because just as there is a heaven there is a hell. Also both have to be balanced so we don’t destroy ourselves, do to there is good and bad inside us and we have to keep that in balance to be able to live a healthy life.
Forth, you have the feathers crown. The feathers crown represents where I come from and the history from my country, I’m Mexican and we have a very rich culture with amazing folklore and history. This specific crown was inspired by the god the Aztecs believed in named Quetzalcoatl “feathered serpent”. Now you might be asking yourselves why did you chose that crown? Well I chose that crown because my name is Aztec “Cuauhtemoc” and also the planet of the feathered serpent god is Venus which is the same planet that rules my zodiac sign libra. Also is the god of the wind the element of my zodiac sign libra and is related to arts, and crafts things that I love. He was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, of learning and knowledge and I can relate to that since I love learning and gaining more knowledge.
Last but not least, the background. In the background you see a galaxy or space with lots of starts. That represents the universe, how we as humans are part of it and a reminder that we are just a small piece of everything out there. Also to me is a reminder to stay humble and never try to be superior than anyone else because at the end of the day I’m nothing compared to the world and the world is nothing compared to the universe.
I love how this piece represents everything that I believe in and I’m very thankful for Roman Abonza to bring my idea and vision come to life, thank you very much friend. If you want to see more of his work visit www.romanabonza.com or visit his instagram @romanabonza.
